Richards returns to KP

Dean Richards returned to Kingston Park on Friday night to watch his former club Newcastle Falcons take on Bath Rugby in the Gallagher Premiership.

Richards, who enjoyed a 10-year stint with the North East club, was amongst the Geordie faithful for the first time since leaving his post as director of rugby at the end of the 2021-22 season.

Watching on as Bath secured a 28-17 bonus-point victory to move level on points with Northampton Saints at the top of the Premiership, Richards mingled with supporters and chatted to some of his former players.

It capped off a busy week for the two-time Heineken Cup winner, having launched The Players Platform alongside his son William just days earlier.

Speaking live on talkSPORT’s Hawksbee and Jacobs show prior to the match, Richards said: “The Players Platform is about giving people an opportunity. Grassroots sport gets overlooked a little bit and my son William wanted to create something which enables people to promote themselves, travel or to just be what they want to be – I thought it was a great idea.

“It is a platform designed for both male and female athletes. Players higher up the pyramid are represented by agents and The Players Platform gives grassroots athletes the platform to develop their career in sport.”

Richards’ appearance on talkSPORT came hot on the heels of a Telegraph exclusive with Charles Richardson, in which the experienced campaigner explained his plans for the platform.
