First leg completed ahead of Premiership final

Dean Richards has completed the first leg of a mammoth charity cycle from Paris to London in aid of the Matt Hampson Foundation and the Gloucester Rugby Foundation.

The former England and Lions back-row has teamed up with an incredible group of fundraisers taking on the challenge, with the goal of reaching Twickenham Stadium in time for this Saturday’s Gallagher Premiership final.

Dean pens his day one report

Our journey from Paris to Twickenham started with 21 riders, and the first day was quite an adventure. We set off from the heart of Paris, only to be met with the infamous Parisian traffic.

Navigating the chaotic streets proved challenging, with French drivers at their worst, leading to three of our riders experiencing minor falls. Thankfully, no serious injuries were sustained, and everyone continued on.

Goodbye Paris

After nearly 20 miles, we finally escaped the relentless city traffic and were rewarded with the serene beauty of the French countryside. The picturesque villages and charming rural landscapes provided a much-needed break from the stress that the morning brought.

By the time we reached our overnight stop, we were tired and a bit bruised, but the camaraderie and high spirits within the group were undeniable. The support and shared experiences of the day’s ride were uplifting.

On to Rugby HQ

The first leg of our journey highlighted our resilience and determination. Despite the challenges posed by the Paris traffic, we made it to our overnight destination, ready to rest for the next stage of our adventure to Twickenham!

The Matt Hampson Foundation is a leading facility for those with catastrophic injuries and was set up by Matt after he was paralysed from the neck down. Ed Slater was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease two years ago, and immediately the Gloucester Rugby Foundation was officially formed – adopting the 4Ed Campaign to secure funds for MND and help with the relentless fight against the disease.
