Consett RFC celebrate 100 years with a centenary dinner

Consett Rugby Club proudly celebrated their 100th anniversary with a gala dinner on Saturday, which saw a number of rugby legends in attendance including former England captain Dean Richards and World Rugby hall of famer Sue Dorrington.

Consett are one of a number of clubs to have signed up to The Players Platform since its launch last month and have lined-up a number of high profile events to mark the milestone.

A pivotal figure in the club’s history, Roy Tyreman, who has been associated with the club for over 70 years, was a special guest at the centenary event.

Roy, aged 90, has inspired generations of players and received the Durham County Council Chairman’s Medal.

“It has been a privilege and honour to have been part of this club for so many years. The club is central to the community and has had such a positive impact on many people personally and professionally.”

The gala dinner was a blend of elite sport with local culture, featuring a live performance from the club’s top scorer and newly minted musician, Matty Grimes.
